What We Do

Hearts to Heroes provides volunteers with a multitude of opportunities including supply and item donations, care packages, and PPE in order to give back to society’s essential workers. Through involvement in Hearts to Heroes, volunteers develop adaptive leadership and effective communication skills that channel into community outreach efforts.

Our Values

Gratitude

We have a cheesy motto among our board members: gratitude is the best attitude. And we live by it! Never take anything for granted. Not your loved ones, not your privilege, and certainly not your community heroes. It doesn’t take a single dollar to express your appreciation for others, but we all know that the feeling of being appreciated by someone is worth far beyond compare to any monetary value.

Exploring Perspectives

To help the community, we must understand it first. Working with people of all occupations and backgrounds has prompted us to explore the different perspectives in our community. There will always be parts of our community that we aren’t aware of and won’t be exposed to unless we deliberately leave our comfort zone and discover them ourselves. We want to raise awareness on the stories in our community that lack their rightful representation.

Accessibility

As high schoolers ourselves, we want to provide a simple and convenient way for other students to help the community. It can be a lot less pressure to work with peers of your age! And of course, our accessibility extends so that anyone and everyone is welcome to become a volunteer, not only students. We make sure that our entire volunteer process is manageable for everyone that signs up.

Unity

We’ve seen communities struggle with preserving their communion ever since COVID-19 hit. Having to distance ourselves physically only induces us to feel lonely and disconnected when in reality, that’s never the case—not even mid-pandemic. Each person has a unique and individual identity of their own, yet at the end of the day, we all stick together as one community. Hearts to Heroes aims to uplift and empower the community by reestablishing that oneness.

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’”
